The best time to go to Bali
To make the most of your stay in Bali, it's worth choosing the ideal period carefully!
Bali and its tropical climate, ideal for lazing around, are the stuff of dreams. But do you know when you can make the most of your holiday in paradise? With its fine sandy beaches, picture-postcard scenery and relaxed lifestyle, this island will charm you all year round. So, when should you go to Bali?
What are the two seasons to be aware of?
Bali is situated below the Equator. It's this geographical position that gives it a tropical climate all year round, making it a very popular destination. With an average temperature of 27°, the equatorial climate is perfect for a relaxing holiday in an idyllic setting! However, while the heat is present all year round, Bali has two very distinct seasons.
The wet, or rainy, season runs from October to March. This is when Bali is hot and rainy. The dry season in Bali runs from May to September. The climate is drier. This is the best time to visit Bali. Sunshine and warmth are the order of the day, so you can make the most of the treasures this small island in the Indonesian archipelago has to offer! Even the water temperature is simply delicious, around 28° all year round.

When is the best time to visit Bali?
Even if the dry season is ideal for a trip to the other side of the world, you should still opt for the mid-season months of June and September. These are the driest months of the year. You'll be able to make the most of cultural visits and heavenly beaches that are almost all yours!
Inland, the climate is more tropical. Humidity is higher and the risk of rain is greater. Travelling during the dry season means you'll enjoy an ideal climate and fewer tourists than during the high season. This is the best time to pack your bags in Bali and make the most of the island. From rice paddies and monkey forests to Hindu temples and Mount Batur, there's no shortage of things to do in Bali!
When should you go diving or surfing in Bali?
Diving is a very popular activity in Bali. The seabed is exceptional, and you can dive all year round. If you go during the dry season, you'll enjoy ideal conditions for diving, whatever your level. If you want to have a chance of spotting the famous sunfish (or Mola mola), you should visit Bali between July and October.
For experienced or aspiring surfers, it's best to go between April and September. It's during this period that the west coast catches the wind at its best, and the waves are perfect for indulging your passion, all in an idyllic setting!
When should you travel to Bali to take part in the country's festivities?
The climate is a determining factor in your choice of travel period, but the Balinese festivities are also worth considering. They can make superb souvenirs of your stay in Indonesia. Rest assured, there are festivities all year round. These festivities are an opportunity to immerse yourself directly in the heart of Balinese culture.
You'll probably be lucky enough to attend the Odalan, the most common Balinese festival. It takes place every anniversary of the founding of a temple to celebrate the coming of the gods. The date is calculated according to the Pawukon calendar. There are over 20,000 temples in Bali, so there's no shortage of opportunities to celebrate the Odalan!
