Baby swimming pool : the complete guide

From the paddling pool to water-slides, enjoy a refreshing holiday with your children

The sun is shining and the thermometer is showing summer temperatures: it's like swimming in happiness. Share a moment of togetherness with your baby or a game of dodgeball with your children in a play pool.

Advice and precautions for baby's first dip in the pool

Splashing around in the water is one of baby's favourite things. Your child will have fun and be soothed by the rocking movement of the water.

Children can use the pool from the age of 4 months and gradually get used to this new environment. Check that the temperature is around 33° C. Retain contact with your baby at all times and reassure them as much as you can by getting them to play with their toys. It's best to use the pool at less busy times so there's a calm atmosphere for your baby. For greater safety, you can use a rubber ring, armbands or a swim jacket. The idea is to choose equipment suitable for your child's age.

A pool session with your baby should last for 10 to 30 minutes. If your baby starts to shiver, take them out of the pool and warm them up in their towel.

Fun activities to try out in the pool

Looking for fun and the chance to cool off? From the age of 5, your children can take swimming lessons* and learn to swim like dolphins. Have a game of dodgeball with them. They can play their first water polo match, from the age of 8. Cheer them on and watch them have fun. Just like little fishes, they can take part in a timed underwater swimming competition. They form a line, with the water up to their waists and legs apart to form a tunnel. Then they take turns at diving in and swimming through the legs of their friends.

Share these moments of fun with them, or choose the calm of the peaceful adults-only pool, the relaxation of an aqua-fitness lesson or the idle option of a lounger to work on your tan in the sun.
